How I Got to Shoot the Penguins

  • Tvibit, Multi 1 29 Parkgata Tromsø (kart)

Cat Gundry-Beck is back in Tromsø, and this time she’s bringing Antarctica with her!

Irish portrait and commercial photographer, filmmaker, and educator Cat Gundry-Beck lived in Tromsø from 2016–2018 and has a deep connection to the Arctic landscapes and culture. During her time here, she created a photo book about the Tromsø region and held two solo exhibitions at Tvibit. After 14 years abroad in Iceland, Norway, and the UK, she has recently moved back to Dublin, but her adventures continue.

In 2024, Cat spent three and a half months working as a photographer and filmmaker aboard an expedition ship traveling from Greenland to Antarctica via the Amazon River. Now she returns to share stories from one of the world’s most extraordinary journeys!

Join us for an inspiring evening featuring:

  • A casual talk and slideshow from the expedition

  • Insights into working creatively in extreme environments

  • Behind-the-scenes reflections on life at sea

  • A few unforgettable and funny penguin encounters

  • A special screening of Cat’s documentary from the voyage

This is a rare chance to hear firsthand about photographing and filming in some of the most remote and challenging places on Earth; from Arctic light to Antarctic ice.

Welcome to an evening of adventure, storytelling, and spectacular imagery!
